Putting your disability related needs first since 1996

About Broadbent & Co

Broadbent & Co., was set up in 1996 by Steven Broadbent (Specialist Teacher) and Elizabeth Broadbent (Physiotherapist) to assess the support needs of disabled students to help them realise their full academic potential. Over the years, the company also developed their expertise in workplace assessments and assisting disabled employees to maximise their potential in the workplace.

In 2006 Broadbent & Co., became a limited company, Broadbent Assist Ltd., t/a Broadbent & Co. The Company has trained Needs Assessors and administrative staff to give a fully integrated and comprehensive service. After being actively involved in needs assessments and national committees, Steven Broadbent, stepped down in February 2014 as Managing Director and was succeeded by his son, Andrew Broadbent, who is currently a Needs Assessor, Director, and CEO of Broadbent Assist Ltd.

In 2018, Steve very sadly passed away.  Andrew Broadbent, CEO of Broadbent Assist Ltd., and Elizabeth Broadbent, who is also Company Secretary, are now the two Directors.  Rob Slater and Tracy Harper are the Centre Manager and Finance Manager respectively.

Based in Mossley, Ashton-under-Lyne, Broadbent & Co., have currently 40 additional Outreach Assessment Centres throughout the UK.

Broadbent & Co. was established as a partnership in 1996 by Steven and Elizabeth Broadbent. Steven, a qualified teacher and specialist teacher of the visually impaired had spent the previous 15 years working with disabled children and adults. He then went on to set up the North West Regional Access Centre and the ACE/ACCESS Centre for Oldham Education Authority.

Elizabeth, a Chartered Physiotherapist had many years’ experience with adults and children with disabilities in the NHS, in education and for Social Services.

Their ethos was simple, they have the belief that “everyone must be seen and treated as an individual with their own individual needs. These needs must be identified in order for them to realise their own potential in education, employment and for life”.

Broadbent & Co. was one of the first independent Assessment Centres specialising in Needs Assessments in the field of disability before the advent of the Disability Discrimination and Equality Legislation. It has been our privilege to have been responsible for over 45,000 + Assessments for students since 1996.
